Basic Uniform & Camp Out Checklist

(New Scouts)

• Uniform
  1. Required:
     • Shirt (long or short sleeves)
     • Pants (or shorts)
     • Socks
     • Red Epaulets
     • Belt
     • Slide for scarf (Scarf is provided by the Troop)
     • Patched (See Scout Handbook for placement)
       1. Council - "Greater Western Reserve"
       2. Troop Numbers - "7" & "5"
• Equipment
  1. Scout Handbook (only mandatory item)
  2. Basic Personal Camping Gear & Silva type Scout Compass
  3. Knives/Axes are prohibited until scout reeives his "Totin Chip" card
• Use of the Uniform (including scarf!)
  1. To all meeting, unless told otherwise
  2. Traveling to & from Camp (can change on arrival)
  3. All Outings, Field Trips, & other Troop Activities
  4. Wear with dress shoes or boots (sneakers are Unacceptable)
  5. Must be worn for all Boards of Review & Courts of Honor
• Camping Checklist (weekend)
  1. Sleeping Bag - Outdoor type (full length pad is optional, but it is the best way to stay dry in heavy rain)
  2. Rain Poncho/Jacket, & Swim socks/Sandals if lake/river/swimming
  3. Flashlight
  4. Socks & Underwear - two each, packed in Zip Lock bags
  5. Boots - especially if rainy weather, if not, sneakers are OK
  6. Jeans & shirt - sweats are a good lightweight backup
  7. Sweater and/or jacket - plan on dressing in layers
  8. Pack
     • Frame Pack is optional
     • Duffle Bag is OK, unless backpacking or remote site camping
     • Please see Leaders before buying a pack!!!
  9. Toiletries - Motel/sample sizes of Ivory Soap (unscented soap is very important), Toothpaste, floss, depleted roll of toliet paper, and toothbrush. Seperate from other gear in ZipLock Bags.
  10. Plate, cup (not collapsible), and untensil set
  11. Small towel - in ZipLock bag
  12. Insect Repellant and sun block (no aerosol cans)
  13. Required Medications (Advise Scout Leader!!!)
  14. Canteen - optional (wide mouth Nalgene style water bottle is much better)
  15. First Aid Kit (each Scout will eventually need to make one for rank)
  16. Compass - silva type, not military type
  17. Garbage bags - at least one each: kitchen & leaf size
  18. Wear complete uniform (Class "A" with scarf)
  19. Scout Handbook in ZipLock Bag
• Things NOT to bring or do for campouts
  1. Candy or food
  2. Electronic Games
  3. Knives/Axes if Totin Chip has not been earned
  4. Personal Tents
  5. Over pack or allow your parents to pack for you
