WEEKEND PACK HIKE ~ Don't Over Pack!

- Change of underpants, socks, & T Shirts - 1 @ DAY
- roll into sets w/rubber bands, & pack into ziploc bags
- note socks should be multi-component hiking socks or a polyproplyne
liner sock with outer wool or rag wool hiking sock, do not rely on athletic
sock
- Pair of jeans and pair of shorts
- Hooded sweatshirt & tight fitting non-hooded sweatshirt or
long john shirt - or - Sweater & jacket (dress in layers)
- Hiking boots ~ sneakers as a backup and camp & climbing shoe
- Mittens, baseball cap, & sock hat, if no hooded sweatshirt
- Rain jacket or poncho; jacket & pack cover better, rain pants

- Hand soap - Ivory (motel size) or Camp Suds ONLY
- Toothbrush, tooth paste, & floss
- Toilet paper ~ mostly used roll in ziploc bag
- Face & dish towel ~ to dry self & mess gear
- First Aid/ Survival Kit ~ pack some essentials in a ziploc bag
Moleskin, ace bandage, band aides, water purifier tablets, matches &
fire starter, gauze, first aid cream, chap stick, tape, safety pins, needle
& thread (to repair clothes/pack & splinters)
- Handkerchief ~ hunter/farmer type (large paisley)
- Garbage bags & ties: 2 kitchen ~ 1 for boots / 1 for laundry
2 leaf ~ to cover pack at night (need extra for cover sleeping bag if no
pack cover)- no tear type
- Wooden matches(strike anywhere) ~in match case or old spice container
- Package of nylon rope & lashing twine
- Sleeping bag (and pad if you wish) & line, strap or bungee
to attach
- Pocket knife - only if you have your totin chip
- Compass (silva type) & Map set
- Utensils, and cup & plate (combo Sierra cup/bowel best)
- Flashlight w/ extra batteries (penlight best)
- Pad & pencil
- Basic repair parts for pack & equip (stove, water filter, etc.)
- Pack cover
- Hand Shovel ~ Light weight plastic back packer's style (for latrine)
- Water bottles (2~3 qts) - wide mouth w/ measurements marked on side
- Stave or walking stick
- Troop or Common Gear (split weight among hikers)
- Tent ~ split poles/tent/fly/plastic/stakes
- Cook kit ~ plan meals to use least equipment: foil packs, etc.
- Dining fly ~ optional
- Stove (back pack type) Sterno as alternate
- Water filter
- Bear bag(s) & carabiner(s)
- FOOD (minimize trash, weight, & things that spoil)
